Sox Game 124: Angels 3, Red Sox 1

For once, Julian Tavarez didn't suck, although it sure seemed like he was going to after he gave up two runs in the first inning.  Turns out that those two runs would be the only ones he would allow, but the Red Sox couldn't do anything against Angels' pitching, and so the AL East lead is back down to four.

Not much to say about this one, because I wasn't able to watch any of it.  I heard bits and pieces on the radio throughout the game, but I don't know of anything specific.  Apparently, Bobby Kielty, up from the minors and playing his first game with the Red Sox, robbed Casey Kotchman of a two-run shot in the first inning.  I saw that highlight, and it was pretty good.  Too bad it had no real impact on the game.

Anyway, the Red Sox head to Tampa Bay to face the Devil Rays, and then on to Chicago for four games with the White Sox, while the Yankees took a long flight to Anaheim and play tonight against the Angels before heading to Detroit to playing the Tigers.  Those series lead up to three of the remaining six head-to-head games between the Yankees and Red Sox, so they matter.  The Red Sox have the easier schedule over this week, but we'll see if that means anything to them.  It would be nice to go into Yankee Stadium with a bigger cushion, but I hope it at least stays four.

Player of the Game:  even though I hate him, I have to give it to Julian Tavarez, who took a tough loss.  6 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks

Record:  74-50
